How We See Ourselves
How many of you have lost a ton of weight but your mental image of yourself is still as an overweight person? I know it's still hard for me to wrap my mind around. I find myself still acting (in some ways) lke I did when I was overweight and sometimes thinking others view me as that overweight person.
How Others See Us
Isn't it amazing how others now see/treat us? Now that the weight is gone, suddenly we are more human, we aren't considered the invisibles. Opportunities in all areas of life are not available to us -- opportunities that were not available before. In all the years leading up to this moment, not once did anyone tell me that they thought I was good-looking. Not even when I was married. But since I dropped below the 250 lbs barrier I have had several comments. Wow. How much of a difference that makes. It's much like never being touched by another human being for 10-15 years and then all of a sudden getting a big hug.
Time and new experiences are what will ultimately change our perceptions of ourselves. I've noticed my perception of myself slowly changing over time. It's almost as wonderful as the weight loss journey itself.
Yay!
